Just a quick thank you for everyone that turned up for the last race of the year. The results are posted below.
Also a special thanks for the companies that gave us the gifts for our prize giving, especially Homes Industrial Supplies.
A quick decision was held and the following was decided (to be confirmed)
stay with the same chassis/motor rules
use sedan Falcon or Commodore bodies (with interior)
have a points series over the year with fixed dates.
Again the details will be worked out latter.
Racing will start again in late Jan or early Feb.

------------Last Race For 2011 - --------This Wed 21/12/11--------
A quick reminder that the last race for 2011 will be at the Kinloch track. There will be a sausage sizzle at 6pm with racing to start at 7pm.As mention before racing will be over 1 minute , so it should be over within a hour. That should leave plenty of time for drinks and talk. Sausages, sauce and bread are free. Any think else BYO.
race night results 14/12/11
With Christmas almost here, there were only 4 drivers for this nights racing. With 2 marshals that left 2 drivers to battle it out over 3 lanes. Darren was flying from the very start by posting a 51.7 on his very first race, and backing that up with some good laps in the second heat, then to finish it off with a 52.4 in the third heat. Second was a close tie between Barry and Trevor, with Trevor coming out the winner by 1.5 laps.
However the driver of the night the night goes to Tony for doing some consistent times and in doing so beating his own personal best.

So close is the racing nowdays, the top 4 drivers virtually all ended up with the same points.
With the limited number of races (5) and no clear winner it has been decided not to give out the numbers 1,2+3 this year.
Last race date for 2011 Wed. 21/12/11
We will have our last race for the 2011 season at the Kinloch Track on Wed 21st. If you would like to come a bit earlier there will be a BBQ sausage sizzle. Feel free to bring your own steak etc and BYO alcohol.
Racing will be over 1 minute instead of 3 minutes (9x1min), so we should fly though the nights racing.

race results 7/12/11
With a cleaned down track with a good spray of glue, we were ready for a good nights racing.
Stu got off to a flyer, posting two 50 laps with Darren, Dan and Trevor posting 49's.By the 2nd round there were a few more 50's with Darren doing a 52. backing up with a 52.3 in the 3rd round. The final round could of gone ever way, There was just over 8 laps separating the top 4 places, but with 3 x 51 laps saw Trevor sneaking in to takeaway 1st place.
Daniel gave Barry a good run for his money, with Barry coming out to take 5th.
Driver of the night would have to go to Darren for posting two 52 laps, which was about 1 lap quicker than the next quickest.

Wednesday Night Racing 30/11/11
This weeks racing was for total laps (incl qualifying). It was another night of close racing at the Scantlebury track for most of us, except for Dan who was in a league to himself with convincing wins in (I think) in all his races. Dan finished the night with just about 24 laps clear of 2nd place. It was pretty close for 2nd,3rd & 4th with only 10 laps difference between Trevor, Stu and Darren. Barry started out good, but after a car change saw him fade away to 5th. Daniel and Tony were very consistent to round off 5th and 6th.
We got through the 1/24th pretty quick so that left just enough time for some 1/32 racing (3x2min-no qualifying).
The driver of the night has to go to Dan, for not only kicking our butts, doing a 49.9 (again), but for also winning the 1/32 race at the end of the night.

race night results 23/11/11
With 7 of us turning up, it made for another night of good racing. The track was cleaned down, but it soon came right after a couple of races. Darren is always hard to beat on his own track, but even when he did a record 88 laps it was still not good enough to take out 1st place. The driver of the night had to be Stu who was on fire. He was fast and very consistent and took out a well deserved win.

Personal Bests
I have started a board for personal best lap times over 1x3min,3x3min and 9x3min (+ 1min qualifying.)
If everyone could keep a eye on your best laps and let me know when you have bettered it that would be a great help.

race night results 16/11/11
With Stu and Dan away there were 5 people that turned up. With only a light spray of glue on the track everyone was looking for grip. Most of the laps over 3 min were in the 45-47 range with the best being 48.3
Tony did a 39.3, so it is just a matter of time before he cracks the 40 lap mark, but the most improved driver of the night would have to be Barry who took out 2nd. We got though the 3 heats of racing by 9, so that gave us just enough time to fit a round robin race for 1/32 cars. Unfortunately Daniel's car broke before we started racing, so that only left 4 of us.
I have posted a photo of the results, but the 1/32 are a bit hard to read, so have listed them below.
1st Trevor 110.2
2nd Darren 109.6
3rd Barry 100.4
4th Tony 98.6

race numbers for 2012
As the same as last year we will be offering out the numbers 1,2&3. Unfortunately we have not kept good records of all the races this year.Darren has giving me the results of the race at 16th ave (2/11/11) and combined with last week they are as followers. 10 points for 1st, down to 1 point for 10th. I think it is only fair that all 7 of us must be there to gain points.(ie there will be no points scored this wed)

race night results 9/11/11
Sorry about the lack of results lately. I would blame it on a computer problem, but I can't blame anyone but myself. The results are below and don't forget racing will be at the Kinloch track again this Wednesday 16/11/11. Dan and Stu will not be able to make it, so there should only be 5 of us. We will be able to get through the racing (qualifying and 3 heats) before 9.00, so bring your 1/32 cars. There should be time for 1 heat of races (round robin).
Also good luck to Stu, Darren and Dan who are heading down to Wellington for the nationals this weekend.
1st Trevor 440.5
2nd Dan 437.7
3rd Stu 426.2
4th Barry 422.5
5th Darren 420.8

Xmas do
It was very nice of Daniel to offer to have it at his holiday batch this year. It will be the 2nd Sunday of December. Bring all of your family and make a full day of it. More details of who's coming and what to bring closer to the date. Myself and Darren have our cars full, but if anyone else would like to car pool feel free to talk to the other member about it.

next Wednesday 21/9/11 ---- scratched build or international 1/32---
If if anyone is keen to come over to race their 1/32 cars, you are all welcome to bring them along for a nights racing. The orange tires seem to be a bit slippy on my track. The treated tires seem to work best, offering good grip.

Sorry for not posting the results, but I clean forgot about it.It was a frustrating night with the computer throwing a wobbly fit and not counting the laps. Darren got the thing going, but half the races were over 50 laps and the over half over 3 minutes. We got there in the end. This week was for points. With 6 people turning up fastest qualifier got 6 points and last getting 1 point. For racing 1st got 10 points, 2nd getting 8 points and 3rd 6 points.

North Island Champs
Are been held at the Henderson Club this weekend. Good luck to Stu and Dan who are going up. They went last year and came around the middle of the pack. With the way they are racing at the moment they should be able to show the jaffa's a thing or 2. Good luck to both of you and may the speed gods be on your side . I will post the results when I find out myself.

race night results 3/8/11
With 8 drivers turning up there was only time for 3 heats instead of 4. The races were for total laps instead of points this time round. With a rubbered up track we saw a few 50 laps reached in the 3 minutes, with Dan just about doing a 51 (50.9). Peter had a bit of bad luck and smoked a motor, but with a quick change of cars saw him fight his was back to 5th. Dan found his winning form again taking out the win with 440.2 laps. Tony did well for his first time out with a solid 300 lap (8th). Check the photo for the full results. Next week racing will be at Darren's 16th ave track, so get your cars ready and see you there.

Racing format for Wed 3/8/11
This weeks format will be for the most number of laps. There will be no qualifying with 4 races instead of 3. The person with the most number of laps over the 4 races will win the nights racing. The track has a good layer of rubber, so we should see some quick times.
Good luck....

Wednesday 20th July
This weeks racing was at Darren's at Sixteenth Avenue,
Good nights racing with everyone showing good pace and driving skill!
Racing was very close with PETER winning the nights points
"He should be happy as he hasn't won since the last points round"
Nice one Peter!
Daniel improving nicely,
Looks like Tony will be racing with us soon - Looking forward to it.
Barry's new car is VERY FAST!!
Dan, Darren and Trevor thanks for coming :O)

Wednesday Night Racing 13 July 2011
We saw some very close racing last night with some tight finishes. Dan's winning streak of 5 in a row came to a end with Trevor coming out the overall winning and Stu close behind for 2nd. 3rd was tied between Darren and Peter. Dan never recovered from his bad start and ended in 5th and Daniel rounding off in 6th. Some record times were set and 50 laps taking about 3min 3sec.
The staggered starts seem to work fine, so they will stay. At this stage I will probably go back to the 3min races instead of 50 laps.
The next time we race here it will be for laps (and sections), with a A&B final. (as per Dan's).
Next week we will be at the 16th ave. Darren is always hard to beat at home, so no doubt there will be plenty of work been done before then.

Racing format for Wed 13/7/11
I was thinking of using the following format for next weeks racing;
Qualifying;
Fastest lap over 1 minute and work points backwards by the number of people. (7 people - 1st would get 7 and 7th will get 1)
Racing;
Race over 50 laps (should be around 3 min 15 sec) and points per race. 1st will get 3, 2nd gets 2 and 3rd 1.
This might seem a bit unbalanced in the points between the qualifying and the racing, but it is pretty close to the same points system we have been using at Dan's.
(Qualifying: points awarded 1st = 6pts 2nd = 5pts etc down to 1point
Race points (3x 3min) 1st= 10pts 2nd = 8pts 3rd =6 pts.)
If you win all 3 races you will get 9 points v's 10.
Any other suggestions or feed back would be appreciated.

race night 6/7/11
The first nights racing at the Kinloch track went pretty well, but with a few problems with the timing system showing up. Hopefully it should be all sorted out by next week. This week saw 7 people turn up which made for some great racing. A big shout out to the newest member Daniel who is starting to show some good pace. With a bit of time he should be right up there. Also once Barry gets used to his new controller he will be right on the pace. Darren was a bit unlucky with a motor wire coming off after a crash.
This weeks format was for points. 1st qualifier getting 7 points, 2nd getting 6 points etc. For the racing 1st got 10 points, 2nd getting 8 points and 3rd getting 6 points.
Congratulations to Dan taking out 1st place. This must make it about 5 in a row now.
The overall results are as below
1 Dan 94 points
2 Pete 89 points
3 Stu 82 points
4 Trev 75 points
5 Darren 73 points
6 Barry 62 points
7 Daniel 57 points
Next weeks racing will also be at the Kinloch track.
The main focus will be 1/24th racing, but afterwards there will be a quick 1/32 racing (time permitting), so bring your 1/32 cars just in case.
Looking for a web site, but can not find it. Have a look on the link below.

The History of the Tauranga Slot Car Club
The roots of the Tauranga Slot Car Club go back to the early 1970’s when Brookfield Raceways and The Tauranga Commercial Centre both closed their doors. At that time, both clubs had been running strongly and occasionally challenged each other with Endurance events.
Indeed, during the early 1970’s, the Tauranga clubs used to travel to Whakatane and Matamata to challenge for Endurance events. These events were mostly 1/32nd scale events of around 4 hours duration. Other events included a 2 hour 1/24th Saloon Enduro that was made up of a big field of mostly Minis which was hosted by Brookfield Raceways at their Otumoetai clubrooms. Their layout was a 5-lane 130ft long (40m) with electronic lapcounters and a separate elevated racecontrol mezzanine.
Some of the club members included Les Cooper (a la Cucaracha!), Barry (fastest Scalextric) Green, Eric Pattilo, Denis (Chapparal) Purdy and Gary Dickinson.
Meanwhile, the Tauranga Commercial Centre was run by Dick Schaeffer and his stunning asian bride. This track was a commercial monster with 8-lanes, 12m or more straights and an enormous 2m high banked 180ยบ corner that sported a tabletennis netting around the top to contain wayward cars. Needless to say, this net was full of holes, and local entertainment was often heightened by seeing who could get their car to fly off the top and make it out the front door and on to the footpath outside. Yes, cars were cheap in those days.
Dick used to run events with entry fees and prizes - mostly Lexan bodies (which he made) and car parts but also cigarettes and softdrinks were thrown in. Dick’s track cleaning truck consisted of a four-engined beast that towed a large dampened sponge.
From the closure of these two venues, the Tauranga club started out building a layout at Marty Woodward’s house in the Avenues. This was successful for a period of time before it lapsed and the club stalwarts then moved into premises in the centre of Tauranga in the old Down Under Coffee Lounge building and built their own layout.
After another move to a Cameron Road/Hillsdene location in what has now become the Tauranga Citizens’ Club, the club then wound up at some time during the 1980’s. Paul Corlett (Sharnie) was club President through this period.
Many moons passed until Errol Hodgson made it known that his full basement layout was available to resurrect a Tauranga Slot Car Club.
Unfortunately Errol Sold his track after a couple of years and nothing happened for a couple of more years until the start of 2010 when the Scantlebury track was build by Stu and Dan. This returning slot car racing back in Tauranga again. In middle of the same year the 16th ave track was build and a simple figure 8 track was built in Kinloch. The Kinloch track went though a major change in the middle of 2011 to what it is today. With 3 tracks in Tauranga, slot car racing is truly back in the heat of the bay.
Thanks to Barry Raynel for the information
